A short edition today.
Sometimes companies go through difficult times. Turmoil in the economy. Industry disruption. Layoffs, chaos, pressure. Those are difficult situations. It’s tempting to walk away, and no one would blame those who do.
But anyone can succeed when things are easy. It’s when things are hard that the best leaders stand out.
When it’s so easy to switch jobs, being able to rally the troops and deliver results regardless of conditions can make you stand out. Those are valuable skills at a startup, regardless of whether times are good or bad.
We can’t control what’s happening in the economy or even our own companies. But we can always decide that we’re going to give our best.
And when we give our best, we learn new things and we deliver when others walk, we grow. And people notice. If nothing else, it makes for great interview material later on. But it often yields results sooner than that.
I’m experimenting with a shorter form than usual, since everyone is writing bigger and bigger newsletters these days and there’s only so much time in the day. Get in touch if you have any feedback, I’d love to hear your thoughts!
Thank you for reading.
